What is Postgres?
PostgreSQL
Postgres, short for PostgreSQL, is a free, open-source relational database. It stores an app's data in tables, is queried with SQL, and is used by everything from side projects to very large companies.
Postgres has been developed in the open for decades and is known for being reliable and careful with data. When it says something is saved, it is saved.
It does more than store rows. It can enforce rules about the data, search text, store flexible JSON alongside regular columns, and limit which rows each user can see.
Because it is open source and so widely used, almost every hosting provider supports it, and your data is not locked into one company's format.
Mythex gives each project its own Postgres database.
Questions
Is Postgres free?
The software is free and open source. You pay for the server or service that runs it, unless you run it yourself.
What is the difference between Postgres and MySQL?
Both are popular open-source relational databases. Postgres is often chosen for its stricter handling of data and richer features; MySQL is common in older web hosting. For most new apps either works.
