Glossary / Text-to-app
What is text-to-app?
Text-to-app means turning a written description into a working application with AI. It is another name for prompt-to-app: the text is the instruction, and the app is the output.
The name follows the pattern of text-to-image and text-to-speech: you type words, and a model produces something else. Here the something else is an app you can click through, not a picture or a file.
Text-to-app is broader than text-to-code. A code generator hands you code and leaves running it to you. A text-to-app tool also runs the code, shows it in a preview, and usually hosts it, so you never have to install anything.
Most tools accept more than plain text. You can often paste a screenshot of a design you like, upload a spreadsheet of data, or attach a document describing the business, and the tool uses all of it.
Examples
- Typing "a habit tracker with streaks and a weekly chart" and getting a working tracker
- Pasting a price list and asking for an order form that uses it
Questions
What is the difference between text-to-app and text-to-code?
Text-to-code gives you source code to run yourself. Text-to-app gives you a running app: the tool writes the code, runs it and shows it to you, and usually lets you publish it to a web address.
Do I need to write my description in English?
Usually not. Modern AI models understand many languages, so you can describe the app in Arabic, French or Spanish. You can also ask for the app itself to be in that language.
