Choose Lovable if you are not a developer and want a guided path to a full-stack web app, with a managed backend and the option to edit on the preview. Choose Bolt if you want the quickest working prototype in the browser and are comfortable seeing JavaScript. Choose Replit if you want a complete cloud development environment — many languages, background jobs, native iOS apps — with an AI agent inside it. All three have a free tier, and their first paid plans cost $20–$25 a month as of September 2026.
How we compared
This is a comparison of publicly stated features and pricing, based on each vendor's own pricing pages and documentation in September 2026. We did not run speed tests or rate code quality. The criteria:
- Who it is built for and how building feels
- Backend — database, login, hosting
- Mobile — web only, or native apps
- Ownership — editing, export and GitHub
- Pricing — free tier, first paid tier, and how usage is metered

Lovable
How it feels. You describe the app and Lovable builds the frontend, backend, database and login. Small visual changes can be made on the preview itself: its preview toolbar lets you select an element or draw an annotation (both use credits), and inline text edits include 100 free edits a day before credits apply. There is also a Plan mode that costs 1 credit per message.
Backend. Lovable Cloud gives each app a database, storage, authentication, realtime and functions, built on Supabase's open-source foundation, without you setting up Supabase separately. Hosting is included; Lovable says most small apps' hosting is covered by the included monthly Cloud grant.
Pricing as of September 2026. Free: 5 build credits a day (up to 30 a month) and 20 Cloud credits a month. Pro starts at $25/month for 100 credits, with higher tiers; Business starts at $50/month and adds SSO and role-based access. Paid plans add the daily credits on top. Monthly credits expire two months after they are issued. Workspaces have unlimited members at no extra cost. See Lovable pricing.
Watch for. Code editing, code download, custom domains and private projects are paid features. Lovable builds web apps only.
Bolt
How it feels. Bolt runs the whole development environment in your browser tab, so a first preview appears very quickly. It builds with a range of JavaScript frameworks and shows you the code as it goes. Mobile apps are built with its Expo integration.
Backend. Bolt Cloud creates a database automatically when your project needs one, publishes to a free .bolt.host address, and handles custom domains on Pro. Bolt says it is powered by Netlify and Supabase, so you do not need accounts with either.
Pricing as of September 2026. Free: 1M tokens a month with a 300K daily limit, Bolt branding, and hosting up to 333K web requests. Pro: $25/month starting at 10M tokens, no daily limit, custom domains, no branding, and unused tokens that roll over for one month. Teams: $30 per member per month, with tokens per member rather than shared. See Bolt pricing.
Watch for. Bolt explains that most token use comes from syncing your project's files to the AI, so larger projects use more tokens per message. Backends stay in the JavaScript and Node world.
Replit
How it feels. Replit is a cloud computer with an AI Agent. You can stay in chat, but the IDE, files and shell are always available. That makes it the most flexible of the three and the one with the most to take in.
Backend. Built-in authentication, database, hosting and monitoring. Publishing supports Autoscale (scales to zero when idle), Reserved VMs for always-on services, Static sites and Scheduled jobs; apps built by Agent use Autoscale or Reserved VM. Agent can build native mobile apps with Expo, test them on your phone and submit iOS apps to the App Store (you need an Apple Developer account); Google Play publishing is not yet supported.
Pricing as of September 2026. Starter is free, with daily Agent credits, one published app and "Lite" builds only. Core is $20/month ($18 billed annually) and includes $20 of usage toward the most capable models. Pro is $100/month ($90 billed annually) with up to 15 collaborators and 10 parallel agents. See Replit pricing.
Watch for. Agent work and published apps are metered, so heavy use costs more than the plan price.
How each one charges
The three sticker prices look almost identical, but each tool meters usage differently, and that matters more than the headline number once you build something real.
Lovable charges credits per message. The cost of a message depends on how much work it does. Lovable's own pricing page gives examples: a small style change costs well under one credit, while adding authentication or building a landing page with generated images costs more than one. Plan mode is a flat 1 credit per message. The same credit balance also pays for hosting on Lovable Cloud and for AI features inside your app, on top of included daily and monthly grants. Credits are shared across the workspace, and owners can set per-member limits.
Bolt charges tokens. Tokens measure the text sent to and from the AI. Because Bolt sends your project's files along with each request, the same prompt uses more tokens as the project grows. The upside is predictability at the start and a large monthly allowance on Pro; the thing to watch is long-running projects. Unused paid tokens roll over for one extra month.
Replit charges a plan plus usage. Core and Pro include a monthly amount of usage toward the more capable models, with a Free Mode for lighter work. Agent tasks, published apps, databases and storage all draw on usage, and Replit provides spending controls in its billing settings.
A practical way to compare: build the same small feature in each free tier, then look at what it cost in that tool's own usage view. That tells you more than any pricing table.
Hosting is part of the bill in all three. Lovable says hosting for most small apps is covered by its included Cloud grant, Bolt's plans include a number of web requests per month, and Replit bills published apps by deployment type. If you expect real traffic, read each tool's hosting page before you launch, not after.
Which one for which job
| Your situation | Best fit |
|---|---|
| Non-technical founder building a SaaS-style web app | Lovable |
| You want a demo for a meeting this afternoon | Bolt |
| You need a Slack bot, a scheduled job or a Python service | Replit |
| You need an iPhone app in the App Store | Replit (or Bolt via Expo) |
| You want to click on the page and change it | Lovable |
| Your team shares one budget and keeps growing | Lovable (unlimited members) |
| You are a developer who wants an IDE you can hand work to | Replit |
Where each is clearly the better choice:
- Lovable wins on a guided, design-forward first experience and on editing directly on the preview.
- Bolt wins on time to a first running preview and on frontend framework choice.
- Replit wins on breadth: any language, background processes, and native iOS publishing.
Where Mythex fits
Mythex is a fourth option in the same category, and it sits between Lovable and Replit. Like Lovable, you start in chat with a live preview, not an IDE. Like Replit, there is a real code editor and terminal behind it, and you can ask for a Python, Node, C# or Java API alongside a React frontend. Each project can get a dedicated Postgres database and file storage, and you publish to yourname.mythex.ai or, on Pro, your own domain.
As of September 2026 Mythex Free gives 10 credits a day (up to 30 a month) with a read-only code view; Pro is $25/month or $250/year, adds full code editing, project export and GitHub sync, and uses one credit balance for building and hosting, with unlimited collaborators. See plans in the docs.
What Mythex does not have: an on-preview visual editor like Lovable's, Bolt's in-browser speed, or Replit's native mobile publishing — Mythex builds web apps today, and mobile is coming soon. Login and payments in your app use your own provider and keys. The detailed head-to-heads are at Mythex vs Lovable, Mythex vs Bolt and Mythex vs Replit.
Before you pay for any of them
- Run the same small test on each free tier. A form that saves entries to a database, and a page that lists them behind a login, shows you most of what matters. Our guide to building an app with AI has a good first prompt to reuse.
- Check what happens at your limit. Credits, tokens and usage are measured differently in each tool; read how each one charges for hosting as well as for building.
- Check the exit. Connect GitHub or download the code early, so you know you can leave.

Questions
Is Lovable, Bolt or Replit better for beginners?
Lovable is usually the gentlest start for non-developers: chat, a guided backend and editing on the preview. Bolt is also approachable but shows more code. Replit is the most powerful and the most developer-shaped, because a full IDE is always there.
Which is cheapest?
As of September 2026 the entry paid plans are close: Replit Core is $20/month ($18 billed annually), and Lovable Pro and Bolt Pro both start at $25/month. All three meter AI usage, so how much you build matters more than the sticker price.
Can Lovable, Bolt or Replit build mobile apps?
Lovable builds web apps. Bolt documents building mobile apps through its Expo integration. Replit's Agent builds native apps with Expo and can submit iOS apps to the App Store; Replit says Google Play publishing is not yet supported.
Do I own the code?
All three say you own what you build. Lovable offers Git sync on every plan and code download on Pro. Bolt connects to GitHub. On Replit the project and its files live in your workspace.
