Glossary / Frontend
What is the frontend?
The frontend is the part of an app that people see and interact with: the pages, buttons, forms, text and layout, running in a web browser or on a phone.
Everything you can click is frontend. It decides how the app looks on a laptop and on a phone, what happens when you press a button, and how information from the server is shown.
Frontends are built with HTML for structure, CSS for style, and JavaScript for behaviour. Most modern ones use a framework such as React to keep large interfaces organised.
The frontend should never hold secrets. Anything sent to the browser can be read by anyone using it, so payment keys and private data checks belong on the backend.
Questions
Is the frontend the same as the design?
The design is the plan for how things should look. The frontend is the working code that makes it real in the browser.
