Glossary / Hosting
What is hosting?
Hosting means running your website or app on computers that are always connected to the internet, so anyone can open it at a web address.
Your laptop can run an app, but it sleeps, moves and is not reachable from outside. A host provides machines that stay on, with fast connections and someone looking after them.
Simple websites can be hosted as static files on a content delivery network, which is cheap and fast. Apps with a backend need somewhere for the server code to run and a database, which costs more and needs more care.
When you pick hosting, look at what happens when traffic grows, how backups work, where the servers are, and whether you can move elsewhere later.
Publishing in Mythex hosts your app for you at a live URL, so there is no separate server to set up.
Questions
Is hosting the same as a domain?
No. Hosting is where the app runs. The domain is the name people type to reach it. You connect the two with DNS.
Can I host an app for free?
Many platforms have free tiers for small projects, with limits on traffic, storage or uptime. Business apps usually move to a paid plan.
