Glossary / TestFlight
What is TestFlight?
TestFlight is Apple's service for sending test versions of an iPhone or iPad app to testers before it goes on the App Store. Testers install the TestFlight app and get your builds through it.
You upload a build of your app to App Store Connect, Apple processes it, and then you invite testers by email or with a public link. They install it from TestFlight, try it, and can send feedback and screenshots.
Internal testers are people on your App Store Connect team and can test a build as soon as it is processed. External testers can be anyone, but the first build for them goes through a short Apple review.
Test builds expire after a set period, so TestFlight is for trying things out, not for permanent distribution. When the app is ready, you submit a build for App Store review.
Mythex sends iPhone builds of your app to TestFlight on the Pro plan.
Questions
Do I need a paid Apple developer account for TestFlight?
Yes. TestFlight is part of the Apple Developer Program, which has a yearly fee.
Is TestFlight the same as publishing on the App Store?
No. TestFlight is for testers you invite. Publishing on the App Store needs a separate submission and review.
