Use Canva if you need marketing graphics, social posts, presentations and documents made quickly from templates, by people who aren't designers. Use Figma if you're designing the interface of an app or website, building a design system, prototyping flows or handing designs to developers. They overlap less than people think: Canva is for content, Figma is for product. Many teams use both. As of October 2026 Canva Pro costs US$144 a year for one person, and Figma Professional starts at $16 a month per Full seat, with a free plan on both.

How we compared
We compared publicly stated plans, prices, limits and features on Canva's and Figma's own pricing pages as of October 2026. We didn't run design benchmarks. Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax. Where a page showed only one billing option, such as Canva's yearly prices, we report what was shown rather than estimating the other. We judged each tool by what it's designed for, who can use it without training, how teams pay for it, and how work moves from design to a live product.
What each tool is really for
Canva is a template-first design tool. You pick a template for an Instagram post, a pitch deck, a poster or a résumé, swap in your text and images, and export. Brand Kits keep logos, colours and fonts consistent, and paid plans add social content scheduling and a large premium stock library. It's built so that a non-designer can produce something that looks professional in a few minutes.
Figma is a collaborative interface design tool. Designers lay out screens in frames, build reusable components, create interactive prototypes, and share files that teammates comment on in real time. Developers use Dev seats to inspect designs and get the details they need to build them. Figma also offers FigJam for whiteboarding, and Figma's plans include a monthly allowance of AI credits.
A simple test: if the thing you're making will be posted, printed or presented, start with Canva. If it will be built, as an app screen or a website, start with Figma.

Canva's page offers monthly billing too and says yearly saves from 16%, but it showed only the yearly figures when we checked. See Canva pricing.
Figma
Figma prices by seat type. A Full seat is for people who design, a Dev seat is for developers who inspect and build from designs, and a Collab seat is for people who mostly comment and whiteboard.
| Plan | Full seat | Dev seat | Collab seat | AI credits per Full seat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Free | — | — | 150/day, up to 500/month |
| Professional | $16/month | $12/month | $3/month | 3,000/month |
| Organization | $55/month, billed annually | $25/month | $5/month | 3,500/month |
| Enterprise | $90/month, billed annually | $35/month | $5/month | 4,250/month |
Dev and Collab seats include 500 AI credits a month on paid plans. See Figma pricing.
What that means in practice: a solo founder making social posts and a pitch deck pays US$144 a year for Canva Pro, or nothing. A small product team with two designers, two developers and three reviewers on Figma Professional pays 2 × $16 + 2 × $12 + 3 × $3 = $65 a month.
Ease of use
Canva wins for speed and accessibility. Almost anyone can open it and produce a decent result, because the template does most of the design work.
Figma rewards learning. Auto layout, components, variants and prototyping take time to understand, but they're what make it possible to design a 40-screen app that stays consistent. If you're not a designer and only need a few graphics, Figma will feel like more tool than you need.
Collaboration and teams
Both tools are collaborative in the browser. The difference is the kind of team.
- Canva Business is built around brand control: shared Brand Kits, approvals, and team admin, so a marketing team keeps everything on-brand.
- Figma is built around product teams: designers, developers and reviewers working in the same file, with seat types priced to match each role.
From design to a live product
This is where people get stuck. Canva can publish simple websites and Figma designs are handed to developers to build, but neither turns a design into a working app with a database and user accounts on its own.
If your goal is a real product, such as a booking page, a client portal or an internal tool, an AI app builder can take you from description to a working app. With Mythex you describe what you want in chat, see a live preview, and publish to a URL in one click; it adds a database, sign-in and file storage when the app needs them. You can describe the look you want or paste in details from your Figma design. Our guide on how to design a good-looking app with AI covers how to get a polished result.
Be clear about the trade-off: Mythex isn't a design tool. For pixel-precise interface design, a design system, or a team review process, Figma is the right tool. For a flyer or a slide deck, Canva is. A builder fits when you've already got the design idea and need the working thing.
Who should pick which
- Social media, ads, flyers, presentations: Canva.
- Small business or nonprofit with no designer: Canva (Free, Pro, or the nonprofit offer).
- Marketing team that needs brand control: Canva Business.
- Designing an app or website interface: Figma.
- Product team with designers and developers: Figma Professional or Organization.
- Both kinds of work: use both. Figma for the product, Canva for the content around it.
- You need the app itself, not just the design: an AI app builder; see our best AI website builders roundup for options.
Verdict
Canva and Figma aren't really rivals. Canva is the fastest way for anyone to make marketing and presentation content from templates, and it's cheap for one person. Figma is the standard tool for designing digital products, priced per seat so developers and reviewers cost less than designers. Choose by what you're making: content you'll publish, or a product someone will build.
Questions
Is Canva or Figma better for beginners?
Canva is easier for beginners. You start from a template, change the text, photos and colours, and export a social post, flyer or presentation in minutes. Figma has a steeper learning curve because it's a professional interface design tool built around frames, components and auto layout.
Can Canva replace Figma for app or website design?
Not for serious product work. Canva is built for marketing graphics, presentations and simple documents. Figma is built for designing app and website interfaces, with reusable components, prototyping and handoff to developers through Dev seats. For a quick mockup Canva can work, but teams designing a real product use Figma.
