Base44 vs Lovable: Which AI App Builder Should You Pick?
Base44 vs Lovable compared on how you build, backend and login, payments, phone apps, code ownership and pricing as of October 2026, and who each suits.

Pick Base44 if you want the fewest decisions between an idea and a working app, a cheaper entry plan, and a documented path to the App Store and Google Play. Pick Lovable if you're building a web product you expect to grow: it has editing directly on the preview, a code editor, Git sync on every plan, and a wider choice of sign-in and payment options. Both include a database, login and hosting, so neither needs a second account to get started.
The rest of this guide goes through how each one works, where they differ, and what they cost as of October 2026.
How we compared
This is a comparison of publicly stated features and pricing, based on each vendor's own pricing page and documentation in October 2026. We didn't build the same app in both or rate the code. The criteria:
- How you build — chat, visual editing, code access
- Backend and login — what's included and how users sign in
- Payments — built-in, or your own Stripe account
- Phone apps — web only, or store publishing
- Ownership — GitHub, export, and what still depends on the vendor
- Pricing — free tier, first paid tier, and how usage is metered

Base44
How it feels. Base44 is built so that you make as few choices as possible. You describe the app, and the backend, database, login and hosting are already there. Its homepage lists one-click integrations with Google Calendar, Gmail, Slack, Notion, HubSpot and Salesforce, plus API connections. The docs describe a Canvas view for looking over pages and global controls for colors and fonts, and a developer platform with an SDK, a CLI and GitHub for people who want to go further.
Backend and login. User management and authentication are built in. The docs describe single sign-on for your app's users with Google Workspace, Microsoft, GitHub, Okta or another OIDC provider. There are built-in emails for things like password resets, with the option to send from your own domain or through Resend.
Payments. Two documented routes. Base44 Payments, powered by Wix, handles payouts, refunds and subscriptions. Or you ask the chat to install Stripe: the docs say it starts in a Stripe test environment so you can run test payments before going live, and that Stripe is available on Builder and above. A Payments tab tracks sales and recurring customers.
Phone apps. Base44's docs describe scanning your app against Apple and Google guidelines, fixing issues with the AI chat, and generating the files to submit to the App Store and Google Play. The app runs your published Base44 app inside a native web-view wrapper, so most content and design changes reach the phone app without a new store version, and you can add push notifications. Downloading the submission files needs Builder or above. The docs also note that Base44 apps don't support Apple In-App Purchase or Google Play Billing yet, so subscription tiers and other digital content can't be sold inside the phone app.
Ownership. Base44 says you own your code, data and users, that two-way GitHub sync exports the full source to your repository, and that apps stay live if you change or cancel your plan. GitHub sync starts on Builder.
Pricing as of October 2026. Prices are per month, billed annually; Base44 says annual billing saves 20% and the page doesn't list monthly rates.
- Free: 25 message credits and 100 integration credits a month, up to 5 apps.
- Starter: $16/month, 100 message credits, 2,000 integration credits, custom domain.
- Builder: $40/month, 250 message credits, GitHub, a free domain for a year.
- Pro: $80/month, 500 message credits.
- Elite: $160/month, 1,200 message credits, premium support.
Watch for. The free tier is small: 25 messages a month goes fast. Integration credits are a second meter on top of message credits. Several features people expect early, including Stripe, GitHub and store files, start on Builder, so the realistic entry price for many projects is $40 a month billed annually, not $16.
Lovable
How it feels. Lovable describes itself as a full-stack AI development platform for web applications. You chat in Build mode, use Plan mode to get a structured plan you can review before any code is written, or Chat mode to discuss changes without making them. On the preview you can select, edit, annotate and comment on elements directly, which is handy for small visual changes. A code editor lets you browse, search and edit the source on paid plans.
Backend and login. Lovable Cloud is the built-in backend: database, authentication, storage, edge functions and AI, with hosting included. Its docs list a wide set of sign-in methods for your app's users: email, phone, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Sign in with Lovable, SAML SSO and OIDC providers such as Auth0, Okta or Microsoft Entra ID. You can also connect your own Supabase project instead.
Payments. Lovable's docs recommend built-in payments for most projects: on a paid plan, Lovable sets up a Paddle or Stripe account and manages the keys, webhooks and test and live environments, for subscriptions and one-time purchases of digital products and software. If you'd rather use a Stripe account you already have, you can connect it with your own API key, including on the Free plan.
Phone apps. Lovable builds web apps. Its iOS and Android app is for building and reviewing your projects from a phone, not for publishing your app to the stores, and we didn't find store publishing in its docs as of October 2026.
Ownership. GitHub sync is listed on every plan, and code editing and download are on paid plans. Lovable also documents importing projects from Base44, Bolt, Replit, v0 and others, and runs security scans on projects before and after publishing.
Pricing as of October 2026.
- Free: 5 build credits a day (up to 30 a month), 20 Cloud credits a month, GitHub sync. No custom domains or code editing, and the Lovable badge stays.
- Pro: from $25/month (or $250/year) for 100 credits, up to 10,000; custom domains, code editing, badge removal.
- Business: from $50/month (or $500/year), adding SSO and team features.
- Enterprise: custom.
Workspaces have unlimited members, and plans are priced by credits, not seats.
Watch for. Credits pay for building and, through Cloud credits, for hosting and the backend, so a busy app uses more than the plan price suggests. The running app depends on Lovable Cloud unless you move the data and login elsewhere.
Base44 vs Lovable, head to head
Speed to a first working app. Both are fast and both include the backend. Base44 asks you fewer questions; Lovable gives you more controls once you're past the first draft, such as Plan mode and on-preview editing.
Login. Both handle app sign-in for you. Lovable lists more methods out of the box, including Apple, phone and SAML SSO. Base44 documents SSO with common providers. If your customers are companies that need SSO, check the exact provider each one supports.
Payments. Both have a built-in route and a Stripe route. Lovable's built-in payments are aimed at digital products and software and can use Paddle. Base44's run through Wix. Stripe on Base44 starts at Builder; Lovable lets you connect your own Stripe even on Free.
Phone apps. The clearest difference. Base44 documents a path to both stores with a web-view wrapper and push notifications, from Builder. Lovable doesn't describe one.
Code and exit. Both say the code is yours. Lovable puts GitHub on every plan, Base44 from Builder. In both, moving off the platform means moving the backend, not just the code.
Price. Base44 Starter at $16/month billed annually is the cheapest way in, but many projects will want Builder at $40. Lovable Pro at $25/month includes code editing and custom domains. For a small team, Lovable's unlimited members on credit-based plans is worth noting.

Where Mythex fits
Mythex is our product, so treat this section accordingly. It's an AI app builder made in Dubai, UAE, and it sits in a different spot from both. You describe the app in chat, in English, Arabic or 60+ other languages, and Mythex writes the code (React, TypeScript and Tailwind by default) in a private cloud workspace with a live preview, a code editor, a file tree and a terminal. It adds a dedicated Postgres database and file storage when needed and publishes to a URL, or a custom domain on Pro.
The trade-offs, honestly: Mythex has no visual on-preview editor like Lovable's, and no managed login or built-in payments product. The agent builds sign-up and login with your database or a provider you choose (how), and payments use your own Stripe keys stored as project secrets (how). What you get instead is the terminal, the full codebase, export and GitHub sync on Pro, strong Arabic and right-to-left support, and, on Pro, Android and iPhone builds that wrap the web app with Capacitor and go to Google Play internal testing and TestFlight.
As of October 2026 Mythex Free gives 5 credits a day (up to 30 a month) and publishes with a small "Built with Mythex" badge; Pro is $25/month or $250/year, Business starts at $50/month, and there are no per-seat fees. See pricing. The detailed comparisons are at Mythex vs Base44 and Mythex vs Lovable, and how to migrate from Lovable to Mythex covers moving a project.
Before you choose
Run the same small test in both free tiers. Build one form that saves to the database, a list page with a detail view, and a sign-in so each user sees only their own records. Then ask for a change that crosses screens, such as "add a status field and filter the list by it." Publish it, open it on your phone signed out, and look at how many credits it used. That hour tells you more than any comparison table, including this one.

Questions
What is the main difference between Base44 and Lovable?
Both build full-stack apps from chat with a built-in backend, login and hosting. Base44, which shows as part of Wix, aims for the fewest decisions and documents submitting a wrapped version of your app to the App Store and Google Play. Lovable is web-only but has more depth for growing products, with on-preview editing, a code editor, Git sync on every plan and a wide choice of sign-in and payment options.
Is Base44 or Lovable cheaper?
As of October 2026 Base44's entry plan is cheaper: Starter is $16 a month billed annually. Lovable Pro starts at $25 a month or $250 a year. But the plans meter differently, Base44 in message and integration credits and Lovable in credits that also pay for hosting, so compare what one real feature costs in each free tier.
Can I export my code from Base44 or Lovable?
Yes, on paid plans. Base44 says you own your code and lists two-way GitHub sync from its Builder plan. Lovable lists GitHub sync on every plan and code editing and download on paid plans. In both cases the app still uses the vendor's backend unless you move the data and login elsewhere.
Can Base44 or Lovable publish to the App Store?
Base44's docs describe preparing store files and submitting your app to the App Store and Google Play inside a native web-view wrapper, with file downloads from the Builder plan. We did not find App Store publishing in Lovable's docs as of October 2026; Lovable builds web apps.
