Bolt is excellent at one thing in particular: getting a running prototype in your browser very quickly. If you need something different — a more guided experience, a non-JavaScript backend, a native mobile app, or a workspace built around keeping an app running — there are good alternatives. Lovable is the closest guided option, Replit the most flexible, v0 the best fit for Vercel teams, FlutterFlow the strongest for native mobile, and Mythex suits people who want chat, code, a database and hosting in one place.

How we compared

We compared publicly stated features and pricing from each vendor's own pricing pages and documentation as of September 2026. We did not run timed tests or rate code quality. The criteria were:

  • How you build and how much code you see
  • Backend: database, auth, hosting
  • Languages and mobile support
  • Code ownership and GitHub
  • Free tier, first paid plan, and how usage is metered

Bolt in brief

Bolt, from StackBlitz, is an AI builder for websites, web apps and mobile apps (through Expo) that runs entirely in your browser on WebContainers. It builds with JavaScript-based frameworks. Bolt Cloud adds databases created automatically when needed, hosting on a free .bolt.host address and custom domains on Pro, powered by Netlify and Supabase behind the scenes.

Pricing as of September 2026: Free has 1M tokens a month (300K daily limit). Pro is $25/month from 10M tokens, with no daily limit and one month of rollover. Teams is $30 per member per month. See Bolt pricing.

Reasons to look elsewhere

  • Token use grows with project size. Bolt says most tokens go to syncing your project's files to the AI.
  • Backends stay in JavaScript. If you need Python, Go or another language, Bolt is not built for it.
  • You want less code on screen, or on-page visual editing.
  • You want a different kind of mobile support, such as a visual native-app builder.

None of these make Bolt a poor choice. If fast prototypes in the JavaScript ecosystem are your main job, it is hard to beat.

Lovable

Lovable builds full-stack web apps from chat, with Lovable Cloud (database, storage, auth, realtime and functions on Supabase's foundation) and a preview toolbar for selecting elements and editing text on the page. Git sync is on every plan.

Pricing as of September 2026: Free gives 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month; Pro from $25/month for 100 credits; Business from $50/month. Unlimited members on all plans. Lovable pricing.

Choose it over Bolt if you are not a developer and want a more guided experience with visual tweaks. Stay with Bolt if you want mobile through Expo or a wider choice of frontend frameworks. See Lovable vs Bolt vs Replit.

Replit

Replit is a cloud development platform with an AI Agent, built-in database, auth and hosting, and several deployment types: Autoscale, Reserved VM, Static and Scheduled. Agent can build native apps with Expo and submit iOS apps to the App Store; Google Play publishing is not yet supported.

Pricing as of September 2026: Starter is free (daily Agent credits, one published app); Core $20/month ($18 billed annually); Pro $100/month. Replit pricing.

Choose it over Bolt if your product includes a Python service, a bot, a cron job or an always-on server. Stay with Bolt if you want the lightest, fastest start.

v0

v0 is Vercel's AI agent for UI and full-stack Next.js apps, using Tailwind and shadcn/ui, with GitHub sync, Design Mode and deployment to Vercel.

Pricing as of September 2026: Free with $5 of monthly credits and 7 messages a day; paid plans per user per month, Business at $100 per user. v0 pricing.

Choose it over Bolt if your team is standardised on Next.js and Vercel. Stay with Bolt if you want other frameworks or hosting outside Vercel.

Base44

Base44 builds apps and websites from a prompt with a managed backend, auth and hosting, plus a visual editor on every plan. It says two-way GitHub sync exports the full source.

Pricing as of September 2026: Free, 25 message credits a month; Starter $16/month and Builder $40/month (with GitHub), billed annually. Base44 pricing.

Choose it over Bolt if you prefer message-based credits to tokens and want a visual editor. Stay with Bolt if you want to see and work in the code from day one on a lower tier.

FlutterFlow

FlutterFlow is a visual builder for mobile, web and desktop apps on Flutter, with AI generation, Firebase and Supabase integrations and one-click app store deployment on paid plans.

Pricing as of September 2026: Free (2 projects); Basic $39/month with code and APK download; Growth $80/month for the first seat with GitHub. FlutterFlow pricing.

Choose it over Bolt if the app must ship natively to both app stores. Stay with Bolt if you prefer building by chat rather than a visual editor.

Cursor

Cursor is an AI code editor for developers. It is not an app builder: you bring the project, database and hosting.

Pricing as of September 2026: Hobby free with limited Agent requests; Individual $20/month; Teams $40 per user per month. Cursor pricing.

Choose it over Bolt once your prototype has become a codebase that a developer maintains locally. Many people use Bolt or another builder first and move to Cursor later. See Mythex vs Cursor for how an app builder and a code editor fit together.

Mythex

Mythex is an AI app builder where the preview runs in a private cloud workspace rather than your browser tab. You describe the app in chat (Build, Plan or Ask), watch it run, and publish to yourname.mythex.ai. There is a code editor and terminal behind the chat. The default stack is Vite, React, TypeScript and Tailwind; you can ask for Next.js, a static site, or a Python, Node, C# or Java API in the same project. A dedicated Postgres database and file storage are added when the app needs them.

Pricing as of September 2026: Free, 10 credits a day (up to 30 a month), read-only code, publishing included. Pro is $25/month or $250/year with 100 credits a month plus daily credits, full code editing, project export, GitHub sync and custom domains. One credit balance covers building, hosting, database and storage; collaborators are unlimited. Mythex plans.

Choose it over Bolt if you want a non-JavaScript backend, a Postgres database per project, and hosting billed from the same balance as building. Stay with Bolt if speed to the very first preview is what matters most — a browser runtime starts faster than a cloud workspace — or if you need mobile apps today, which Mythex does not build yet. Prototype tool or production home?

A useful way to think about Bolt and its alternatives is to separate two jobs: making a prototype, and running an app people rely on. Some tools are built mostly for the first, some for the second, and several try to do both.

For the prototype, what matters is speed, low setup and the freedom to throw things away. Bolt is very good at this, and so are Lovable and v0 in their own ways. It is normal to try three ideas in an afternoon and keep one.

For the production home, different questions matter:

  • Where does the data live, and can you back it up or move it?
  • How is hosting billed once real visitors arrive — requests, bandwidth, time awake?
  • Can you roll back a bad change quickly?
  • Who can edit, and does adding people cost more?
  • What happens if you leave? Is the code in your own repository, and can the backend move with it?

Bolt answers many of these with Bolt Cloud: databases, hosting with request allowances by plan, custom domains on Pro and GitHub for your code. If those answers suit you, there is no need to move. If they do not — for example, you need a Python backend, want hosting and building on one balance, or want a visual editor your team can use — pick the alternative that answers your specific question, not the one with the longest feature list.

A good habit whichever tool you use: before you share a link with real users, work through a short security checklist for AI-built apps. Access rules and secret keys are where prototypes most often fall short.

Moving off Bolt

  1. Connect GitHub so your code sits in a repository you control.
  2. Export your data from the Bolt Cloud database before you switch.
  3. Rebuild or import a thin slice in the new tool and check it works with real data.
  4. Point your domain at the new host last.

Questions

What is a good alternative to Bolt?

Lovable if you want a more guided path with editing on the preview, Replit if you need a full IDE and non-JavaScript backends, v0 for Next.js on Vercel, FlutterFlow for native mobile apps, and Mythex for chat plus code, a Postgres database and hosting in one workspace.

Why does Bolt use so many tokens?

Bolt explains on its pricing page that most token usage comes from syncing your project's file system to the AI, so the larger the project, the more tokens each message uses.

Is Bolt free?

As of September 2026 Bolt has a free plan with 1M tokens a month and a 300K daily limit, plus hosting on a .bolt.host address. Pro is $25/month and starts at 10M tokens.

Can I take my Bolt project elsewhere?

Yes. Bolt says you own your code and it connects to GitHub, so you can move the code to another tool or host. Data in a Bolt Cloud database needs to be moved separately.
