Bolt vs v0: Which AI Builder Fits Your Project?
Bolt and v0 compared on backend, hosting, mobile apps, stack, team pricing and code access as of September 2026, with who each one suits best.
Mythex Team · · 5 min read
Choose Bolt if you want the whole app from one tool — interface, database, sign-up, hosting and a custom domain — or you need a mobile app. Choose v0 if you care most about the interface, you work in Next.js and deploy on Vercel, and you'll connect your own data. As of September 2026 both have free plans; Bolt Pro is $25 a month and v0 Plus starts at $30 per user per month.
How we compared
This comparison uses publicly stated features and pricing from Bolt's and v0's own sites and documentation in September 2026. We did not time builds or grade the code. The criteria:
- How you build and what each tool is aimed at
- Backend — database, authentication, hosting
- Mobile — web only or native apps
- Code access — GitHub and imports
- Pricing — free tier, first paid plan, teams, and how usage is metered

Bolt
How it feels. You chat and Bolt builds a running app you can see and edit. Bolt says its agent routes each task to the most suitable model, balancing quality and cost. You can start from a prompt, a Figma design, a GitHub repository or a team template.
Backend. Bolt Cloud is Bolt's built-in backend. Bolt lists hosting, unlimited databases, user management and authentication, SEO tools, and hosting analytics with custom domains. For a non-developer, that means a sign-up form and saved data don't need a second service.
Mobile. Bolt's support docs say that when you ask for a mobile app, Bolt uses Expo, so one codebase runs on iPhone and Android. To publish to the stores you need an Expo account, an Apple Developer account for iPhone and a Google Play Developer account for Android, and the docs list Node.js and Git on your own computer as requirements.
Pricing as of September 2026. Free is $0 with 1M tokens a month and a 300K daily limit, Bolt branding, hosting up to 333K web requests, and a 10 MB upload limit. Pro is $25/month, starting at 10M tokens with no daily limit, up to 1M web requests, a custom domain, no Bolt branding, and unused tokens that roll over to the next month. Teams is $30 per member per month and adds central billing, access management and private NPM registries. Enterprise is custom, with SSO and audit logs. See Bolt pricing.
Watch for. Tokens measure the text exchanged with the AI, so bigger projects and longer sessions use more. Check your usage early.
v0
How it feels. v0 is Vercel's AI builder. It builds with Next.js, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, has a Design Mode for editing visually, and describes an agent that can search the web, inspect sites, fix errors and call external tools.
Backend. v0 describes itself as "extensible": you use your own APIs, databases and components, and it mentions Snowflake for data apps. That's a good fit for developers and teams who already have a data layer, and more work for someone starting from nothing.
Hosting. One-click deployment to Vercel. Paid plans have centralized billing on vercel.com.
Pricing as of September 2026. Free is $0 with $5 of monthly credits, a 7-message daily limit, deploy to Vercel, Design Mode and GitHub sync. Plus starts at $30 per user per month, with $30 of monthly credits per user plus $2 of free daily credits on login, all models and team collaboration. Business is $100 per user per month with training opt-out by default. Enterprise is custom, with SAML SSO and role-based access control. See v0 pricing.
Watch for. The free plan's 7-message daily limit is tight for real work, and per-user pricing adds up for teams.
Which one for which job
| Your situation | Best fit |
|---|---|
| A prototype that needs sign-up and saved data | Bolt |
| A polished interface on top of an API you already have | v0 |
| An iPhone or Android app | Bolt (via Expo) |
| A team already on Vercel and Next.js | v0 |
| Turning a Figma design into a working app | Bolt (Figma import) |
| Keeping the code synced to GitHub from the first prompt | v0 (GitHub sync on every plan) |
Where each is clearly stronger:
- Bolt wins on having the backend built in, mobile apps, and more ways to start a project.
- v0 wins on fit with Next.js and Vercel, and a clear, popular component stack.
Where Mythex fits
Mythex is a chat-first AI app builder like Bolt, aimed at the whole app. You describe it, the agent writes the code (React, TypeScript and Tailwind by default, Next.js if you ask, and Python, Node, C# or Java APIs next to it), and you see it in a live preview. Each project can get a dedicated Postgres database and file storage, and you publish to yourname.mythex.ai or, on Pro, your own domain. Login, email and payments use your own providers and keys, which the agent sets up with you.
As of September 2026 Mythex Free gives 10 credits a day (up to 30 a month); Pro is $25/month with full code editing, export, GitHub sync and unlimited collaborators, and one credit balance for building and hosting. See plans in the docs. Mythex builds web apps; native App Store apps are coming but not available yet, so for mobile today Bolt is the better pick.
Head-to-heads: Mythex vs Bolt and Mythex vs v0.
Before you choose
- Try the same prompt in both free plans, for example "a booking page that saves requests and emails me". It shows where each one's backend stops.
- Watch the meter. Bolt counts tokens, v0 counts credits; check how much one real feature costs.
- Connect GitHub early so you keep a copy of the code whichever you choose.

Questions
What is the main difference between Bolt and v0?
Bolt includes its own backend, Bolt Cloud, with hosting, databases and user authentication, and can build mobile apps through Expo. v0, made by Vercel, focuses on Next.js interfaces and apps that deploy to Vercel and connect to your own APIs and databases.
Is Bolt or v0 cheaper?
As of September 2026 Bolt Pro is $25 a month and v0 Plus starts at $30 per user per month. For teams, Bolt is $30 per member and v0 Plus is $30 per user, with v0 Business at $100 per user. Both have free plans.
Can Bolt or v0 build mobile apps?
Bolt's docs describe building iPhone and Android apps with Expo; publishing to the stores needs your own Expo account and Apple or Google developer accounts. v0's site does not describe native mobile apps as of September 2026.
Which is better for a quick prototype?
Both can produce a working prototype from one prompt. Bolt is the simpler choice if the prototype needs a database and sign-up; v0 is a strong choice if it is mainly about the interface and you use Next.js.
