Pick Framer if you want to design and launch a marketing site, portfolio or startup landing page quickly, with AI help and a canvas that feels like a design tool. Pick Webflow if you need a large CMS, built-in ecommerce, code export, or a platform that a marketing team will run for years. Both produce fast, polished sites and both now have AI built in. The differences are mostly about scale, content and how precisely you want to control the result.

How we compared
We compared publicly stated features, limits and prices on Framer's and Webflow's own pricing pages as of September 2026. We didn't do hands-on testing, and we left out anything we couldn't confirm there. Prices are in US dollars, billed yearly unless we say otherwise, before tax.
Framer: design-first and fast
Framer describes itself as a design agent for going from idea to launch. You work on a canvas much like a design app, and its AI can create pages, sections and copy from a description and work with the CMS. Credits on each plan power the AI agents and AI translation.
Site plans (as of September 2026, billed yearly):
- Free: $0. Framer domain, 500 AI credits a month, 1 GB bandwidth.
- Basic: $10/month. Custom domain, 30 pages, 2 CMS collections with 1,000 items, 50 GB bandwidth, 1,000 AI credits a month, built-in SEO, password protection, site search, 30 days of analytics.
- Pro: $30/month. 150 pages, 10 CMS collections with 2,500 items (more can be bought), 100 GB bandwidth, 3,000 AI credits a month, a staging environment, branching with previews, redirects and 90 days of analytics.
- Enterprise: custom, with SSO, SCIM and an uptime guarantee.
Extra editors are $20 a month. Add-ons include translation locales at $20 per locale and A/B testing with funnels.
Strengths: very quick from design to live site; strong animation and layout control without code; AI that works on the canvas; simple pricing for small sites.
Limits: CMS limits are modest on Basic, and Framer's pricing page lists no ecommerce plan or code export. It's built for websites, not web apps.
Webflow: power and scale for content-heavy sites
Webflow gives you precise control over layout and styles, a mature CMS, hosting and a large ecosystem of templates, apps and certified partners. It uses web concepts such as classes and the box model, which is why designers and developers like it and beginners find it harder.
Site plans (as of September 2026, billed yearly):
- Starter: free. webflow.io domain, 2 static pages, a limited CMS (50 items), 1 GB bandwidth, 50 form submissions.
- Basic: $15/month. Custom domain, 300 static pages, 10 GB bandwidth, unlimited form submissions, no CMS.
- Premium: from $25/month. Adds the CMS (up to 40 collections and 20,000 items), bandwidth tiers starting at 50 GB, code components, site search and form file uploads.
- Team: $2,500/month on an annual contract, adding Webflow Localize, publishing workflows and governance. Enterprise is custom.
Workspace plans (for staging, seats and collaboration) sit on top: Starter is free, Core is $19/month and Growth $49/month billed yearly. Code export is on Core and above.
Ecommerce plans are separate: Standard $29/month (500 items, 2% transaction fee), Plus $74/month (5,000 items, no transaction fee) and Advanced $212/month (15,000 items), billed yearly.
Strengths: a large, flexible CMS; built-in ecommerce; code export for handing off to developers; scales to big marketing teams.
Limits: a real learning curve, and two layers of plans (site and Workspace) make the total cost harder to read. Webflow says exported code doesn't include dynamic CMS content.
Which one fits your project?
| If you are... | Choose |
|---|---|
| A designer building a portfolio or startup site | Framer |
| Launching a landing page this week | Framer |
| Running a blog or resource hub with thousands of posts | Webflow |
| Selling products from the site | Webflow (or a dedicated store platform) |
| Handing the site to developers later | Webflow |
| A marketing team with many editors and approvals | Webflow |

When neither is the right tool
Framer and Webflow build websites. If your "site" needs user accounts, dashboards, bookings with your own rules, or data that people create and edit, you're building a web app. That's where an AI app builder fits: with Mythex you describe the app in chat, the AI agent writes the code, and you can add a Postgres database when the app needs one. The trade-off is that there's no drag-and-drop canvas; you change things by describing them or, on Pro, editing the code. See Webflow vs AI website builders for more on that split.
If you're still choosing a website builder, our Wix alternatives and best AI website builders guides cover more options, and Webflow alternatives looks at Webflow's rivals directly.
Verdict
- Framer is the faster, simpler choice for design-led marketing sites, portfolios and startup pages, with a lower entry price and AI woven into the canvas.
- Webflow is the stronger platform for large CMS sites, ecommerce, team publishing and code handoff, at the cost of a steeper learning curve and more complex pricing.
If you can't decide, build your homepage on both free plans. The one that feels natural after an afternoon is usually the right one.
Questions
Is Framer or Webflow better for a startup website?
Framer is usually quicker for a startup marketing site or portfolio: its entry paid plan is $10 a month billed yearly and it leans on AI and a canvas that feels like a design tool. Webflow is the better pick when you expect a large CMS, an online store or a team of marketers publishing content.
Is Framer cheaper than Webflow?
At the entry level, yes. As of September 2026, Framer Basic is $10 a month and Webflow Basic is $15 a month, both billed yearly. For a CMS, Framer Pro is $30 and Webflow Premium is $25, but the limits differ, so compare pages, CMS items and bandwidth for your site.
Can I export my code from Framer or Webflow?
Webflow offers HTML and CSS code export on its paid Workspace plans, but CMS content can't be exported that way. Framer's pricing page doesn't list code export, so plan on hosting with Framer.
Can Framer do ecommerce?
Framer's pricing page doesn't list an ecommerce plan as of September 2026. Webflow sells separate ecommerce plans from $29 a month billed yearly. For a serious store, a dedicated commerce platform is also worth comparing.
