The best Google Forms alternatives are Microsoft Forms if your organisation runs on Microsoft 365, Tally for a more flexible free form builder, Fillout for high response limits and unlimited seats, Jotform for payment-heavy business forms, and Typeform for polished, conversational forms. Google Forms is still hard to beat for a quick internal survey, quiz or sign-up sheet that feeds straight into Google Sheets. Switch when you need branding, file uploads without Google sign-in, payments or more control over what happens after someone submits.

What Google Forms does well

Google Forms is part of Google Workspace; you sign in with a Google account to create forms. As of September 2026, Google's product page lists:

• Multiple question types and a drag-and-drop editor.
• Logic that shows questions based on earlier answers, plus quizzes.
• Templates, and colours, images and fonts to match your brand.
• Real-time charts of responses and export to Google Sheets.
• Sharing by link, email or social media, or embedding on a website, and collaborating with others.

For internal surveys, classroom quizzes and simple sign-ups, that's often all you need.

Where people outgrow Google Forms

1. File uploads. Google's help centre says respondents need to sign in to a Google account to answer a file-upload question, which puts off customers.
2. Look and feel. You can change colours and fonts, but the form still looks like a Google Form.
3. Payments. Google's Forms page doesn't list taking payments, so paid registrations need another tool.
4. Logic and workflow. Branching exists, but calculations, approvals and follow-up steps usually mean add-ons or a separate tool.
5. Data lives in Sheets. That's convenient until the sheet becomes your database, with several people editing it.

Microsoft Forms: the like-for-like switch

Microsoft Forms is Microsoft's equivalent. Its support site says it's available with a personal Microsoft account (Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live), Microsoft 365 Apps for business and Office 365 Education.

• Features (as of September 2026): surveys, quizzes and polls; branching; real-time results; built-in analytics; export to Excel.
• Pick it if your team already uses Outlook, Teams and Excel. It's the closest match to Google Forms, with the same strengths and many of the same limits.

Tally: more power, still free

Tally says you get unlimited forms and submissions for free within its fair-use guidelines.

• Free (as of September 2026): payments, signatures, file uploads, conditional logic and calculations, answer piping, password protection, redirects, custom thank-you pages, 45+ languages, and integrations with Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier, Make and webhooks.
• Pro: $24 a month on monthly billing, with two months off yearly. Adds branding removal, custom domains, unlimited collaborators, partial submissions and custom CSS.
• Pick it if you like how simple Google Forms is but need payments, uploads or calculations. You can keep sending responses to Google Sheets.

Fillout: high limits and no seat counting

Fillout includes unlimited forms and seats on every plan.

• Pricing (as of September 2026, billed yearly): Free (1,000 responses a month, logic, payments, scheduling, file uploads, PDF generation). Starter $15/month (2,000 responses). Pro $40/month (5,000 responses, remove all branding). Business $75/month (unlimited responses, custom domain). Monthly billing costs more.
• Pick it if you need more than Google Forms offers and a larger team will manage forms together.

Jotform: forms as an operations tool

Jotform sets plans by active forms, submissions, upload space and payment submissions.

• Pricing (as of September 2026): Starter free (5 forms, 100 submissions a month, 10 payment submissions). Bronze $39 a month or $408 a year (25 forms, 1,000 submissions). Silver $49 a month or $468 a year. Gold $129 a month or $1,188 a year. Enterprise custom.
• Pick it if you run many forms that take payments or files, such as registrations and orders.

Typeform: when the form experience matters

Typeform is known for polished, one-question-at-a-time forms.

• Pricing (as of September 2026): a free plan with a limited number of responses; Basic $39 a month or $28 billed yearly (100 responses a month, one user); Plus $79 or $56 (1,000 responses, branding removal, custom subdomain); Business $129 or $91 (10,000 responses). When the form should become an app

Many Google Forms setups are really small apps held together with a spreadsheet: a request form, a sheet someone checks every morning, and emails sent by hand. When that's the case, a purpose-built tool can save time.
