Use Typeform when the form is customer-facing and you care about design, brand and completion, like lead capture, onboarding or a branded quiz, and you're willing to pay. As of October 2026 Typeform's free plan allows only 10 responses a month, and paid plans start at Basic for 100 responses a month. Google Forms doesn't charge per response.

How we compared
We compared the plans, prices and features listed on Typeform's and Google's own pricing, product and help pages as of October 2026, in US dollars. Typeform's pricing page showed different prices in its plan cards and its comparison table when we checked; we quote the plan cards, which were the prominent figures, and recommend checking the live page at checkout. We didn't run completion-rate tests, and we don't quote any conversion statistics. We compared the free plans, cost as responses grow, design, logic, payments and where the data goes.
Pricing as of October 2026

| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Responses/month | Seats |

| Basic | $39 | $28 ($468/year) | 100 | 1 |

- Typeform's platform page says the free plan includes unlimited forms and 3,000+ templates.
- Typeform's help center says forms go into private mode once you reach 100% of your response limit, and deleted responses still count toward it.
- The comparison table on Typeform's pricing page showed lower figures ($29, $59 and $99 monthly) than the plan cards when we checked.

Google Forms
- Price: free with a Google Account. It's also part of Google Workspace, which starts at $7 per user a month on an annual plan in the US, for teams that want business accounts and admin controls.
- Storage: a personal Google Account includes 15 GB shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos. Uploaded files go to the form owner's Drive.
- Responses: view summaries in Forms or export raw data to Google Sheets.
See Google Forms and Google Workspace pricing.
What that means in practice: a monthly customer survey with 300 responses would need Typeform Plus (Basic's 100 isn't enough), at $56 a month billed annually. On Google Forms it costs nothing. A lead form on your website that gets 50 responses a month fits Typeform Basic, at $28 a month billed annually.
Design and experience
Typeform describes its forms as "conversational, beautifully-designed", and it also supports multi-question pages when you want to group related questions on one screen. Paid plans add custom branding, down to custom domains. For a form that represents your brand, that polish is the main reason to pay.
Google Forms is plain and familiar. You can adjust its theme, but it still looks like a Google Form. For internal use, events and schools, that's often a plus: people trust it and know how to fill it in.
Logic, quizzes and calculations
Both handle branching. Google Forms can show questions based on earlier answers, and you can turn a form into a quiz to test what respondents know. Typeform offers logic on its forms, with advanced logic and its Workflow Builder for conditional paths and scoring on paid plans, which suits personalised quizzes and lead qualification.
Payments, integrations and AI
Typeform can take payments with Stripe and sends responses to tools like HubSpot, Google Sheets and Notion; it says it integrates with 300+ apps. Its AI tools can build a form from a description, adapt questions, and help analyse responses.
Google Forms connects natively to Google Sheets, and from there to anything that reads a sheet. It doesn't take payments on its own.
Data and limits to watch
- Typeform's response caps are the biggest cost driver. Pick the plan for your busiest month, not your average.
- Google Forms file uploads require respondents to sign in to a Google Account, which can put off customers, and the files count against the owner's Drive storage.
- Both store responses on their own platforms. If the data is sensitive, check each company's terms and your own obligations; see what is GDPR for the basics.
When a form becomes an app
Forms are great at collecting answers. They're not built for what comes next: reviewing an application, approving it, letting the applicant log in to check the status, or showing a customer their past submissions.
If your form is the front door to a process, building a small app can replace the form, the spreadsheet and the follow-up emails. With Mythex you describe it in chat, such as the form fields, the review screen and who can see what, and it builds a working app with a database, sign-in and file storage when needed, with a live preview, then publishes it to a URL in one click. Free gives you 5 credits a day; Pro starts at $25 a month. See how to build a form builder or how to build a survey app.
For a one-off survey, RSVP or contact form, a custom app is overkill: Google Forms or Typeform is quicker. Our guide to adding a contact form covers the simplest option for a website.
How to choose in five minutes
Answer these and the choice is usually obvious:
- Who fills it in? Your team, students or members: Google Forms. Prospects or customers judging your brand: consider Typeform.
- How many responses a month at your busiest? Over 10 rules out Typeform Free; over 100 rules out Basic.
- Do you need payment in the form? Typeform supports Stripe; Google Forms doesn't.
- Where should responses end up? Google Sheets works with both; HubSpot and other marketing tools favour Typeform.
- Do respondents need to upload files? On Google Forms they must sign in to a Google Account.
If you're unsure, build the form in Google Forms first. You can move a proven form to Typeform later if design becomes the bottleneck.
Who should pick which
- Internal surveys, staff forms, school quizzes, RSVPs: Google Forms.
- High response volume on no budget: Google Forms.
- Customer-facing lead capture or onboarding where brand matters: Typeform.
- Taking payments in the form: Typeform (Stripe).
- Sending responses into HubSpot or other marketing tools: Typeform.
- A form that starts a multi-step process with logins: a custom app.

Verdict
Google Forms is the best free form tool, with no per-response charge and a direct line to Google Sheets. Typeform is the more polished, brand-friendly option, with payments, integrations and AI, but its response caps make it expensive at volume. Use Google Forms by default, and pay for Typeform when a form faces customers and how it looks really matters.
Questions
Is Google Forms really free?
Yes. Google Forms comes with a free Google Account, and responses can go straight into Google Sheets. The practical limit is storage: a personal Google Account includes 15 GB shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos, which matters if you collect file uploads.
How many responses does Typeform's free plan allow?
As of October 2026 Typeform says its free plan includes up to 10 responses a month, with unlimited forms. Paid plans start at Basic with 100 responses a month, Plus with 1,000 and Business with 10,000.
Is Typeform worth paying for?
It's worth it when the form is customer-facing and its design or completion rate matters, such as lead capture, onboarding or a branded quiz. Typeform adds a conversational design, custom branding, Stripe payments and integrations with tools like HubSpot. For internal surveys, sign-ups and quizzes, Google Forms is usually enough.
Can people upload files in Google Forms?
Yes, with a file upload question, but Google's help center says respondents must sign in to a Google Account to answer it, and uploaded files are stored in a folder in the form owner's Google Drive. File upload questions can't be used in forms stored in a shared drive.
