Flooring Inventory App: Rolls, Packs, Batches and Remnants Tracked

Flooring inventory is not a list of boxes: it is rolls cut to length, packs from different batches, remnants in the corner of the warehouse and stock already promised to next week's job. Describe how you store and use materials and Mythex builds an inventory app with a real database, a history of every movement and a phone screen for stocktakes.

Who it's for

Flooring retailers and fitting firms that hold stock in a warehouse or behind the showroom and keep finding that the system says six packs while the shelf holds four. It fits a carpet business with dozens of part-used rolls, and a wood and vinyl specialist that needs to match batches across a job.

What you can build

  • Stock by product, colour and batch number
  • Rolls tracked by remaining length, packs by count
  • Remnants logged with size, colour and location
  • Stock reserved against a customer job when ordered
  • Reorder alerts for underlay, adhesive, trims and gripper
  • A phone stocktake screen that records who counted and when

Why batch numbers matter in flooring

Two packs of the same laminate from different production runs can differ in shade enough to show across a room. If the inventory holds batch numbers, the warehouse picks a whole job from one batch, and the CRM can record which batch went into which room. When a customer needs three more boards years later, you search by batch first. Without it, the fitter discovers the mismatch on the floor, after the customer has cleared the house.

  • Batch number on every stock entry
  • Pick a job from one batch
  • Batch recorded on the job for future matching

Remnants are margin, if you can find them

Ends of carpet rolls pile up: a 4 by 2.5 metre piece of grey twist, a strip of oak-effect vinyl. They are ideal for box rooms, bathrooms and landlord jobs, and selling them is nearly all profit. Log each remnant with size, colour, product and rack location, plus a photo. Estimators can search remnants by minimum size while quoting, and the showroom can show a remnants page on the website from the same data.

Reserve stock the day a quote is accepted

Stock on the shelf is not the same as stock you can sell. When a job is accepted, reserve its materials, so the showroom cannot sell the same packs to a walk-in customer. When materials arrive for a special order, mark them received against the job, which is what lets the office book the fitting date. Movements in and out record who did it and why, so the stock figure has a history people trust.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not count rolls only as 'one roll'; record the length left after each cut, or the system will show stock you cannot fit a room with. Do not leave accessories out because they are cheap: running out of gripper or adhesive stops a job as surely as missing boards. Start by entering the products you hold most of, then add the long tail during your next stocktake.

A prompt to start from

Create an inventory app for my flooring company. Track stock by product, colour and batch number, with carpet and vinyl rolls by remaining length and boards and tiles by pack. Log remnants with size, colour, location and a photo. Let staff reserve stock against a customer job and mark special orders as received. Show reorder alerts for underlay, adhesive and trims, and a phone stocktake screen.

Questions

Can the inventory track batch numbers?

Yes. Ask for a batch number on every stock entry and on each job, so you can pick a job from one batch and find matching material later.

Can it handle rolls that get cut?

Yes. Record rolls by length and subtract each cut. Pieces below a size you choose can be moved to remnants automatically.

Can staff count stock on a phone?

Yes. The stocktake screen works in a phone browser and records who counted what. On Pro the app can also go out as Android and iPhone apps that open your published app.

Will it connect to my online shop?

If the shop is built in the same Mythex project, it can read the same stock and mark items sold out at zero. A shop on another platform would need its API connected with your own account.

Is it free to start?

Yes. No card is needed for the Free plan, and its daily credits let you publish a working app. Pro, $25/month, covers code editing, export, GitHub, a custom domain and the phone apps.
