Hair Salon Inventory App: Colour Stock, Developer and Retail Shelves
Salon inventory is two jobs: colour and back-bar products used in services, and retail products sold to clients. Mythex builds a stock app that tracks both separately, with colour by brand and shade, developer by volume, reorder levels and supplier orders, and publishes it to a link the team can open at the colour bar.
Who it's for
Salons that run out of a popular shade mid-week, reorder from memory or a shelf list, or cannot tell how much product a balayage actually uses. It suits single salons and owners with two or three sites.
What you can build
- Colour tubes by brand, line and shade with counts
- Developer by volume: 10, 20, 30 and 40
- Back-bar shampoo, conditioner and treatments as service stock
- Retail products with price, cost and reorder level
- A reorder list grouped by supplier
- Stock taken out at the colour bar logged against a service
Keep back-bar and retail apart
When back-bar product and retail stock share one list, retail margins look worse than they are and nobody knows what a colour service really costs. Track them as separate categories. Back-bar can be logged per service or per week; retail is counted and sold. That alone makes both numbers trustworthy.
- Back-bar as service stock
- Retail with cost and price
- Separate counts and reports
Colour by shade, not by box
A colour line can have eighty shades. Track each one with a minimum level based on how often you use it, so the popular naturals and toners are reordered before they run out and the rare shades are not overstocked. A quick 'took one' button at the colour bar keeps counts close without a full stock take each week.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not set the same reorder level for every shade. Do not leave stock takes for the end of the year; a quick monthly count on colour catches drift. And do not let discontinued retail lines sit at full price; flag them for a markdown.
What to set up first
Enter your colour lines and developer with current counts, then retail products with cost and price. Set reorder levels for the twenty shades you use most. Add the colour bar button and a supplier reorder list, then link usage to services if you want cost per service.
A prompt to start from
Build an inventory app for my hair salon. Track colour tubes by brand, line and shade, developer by volume, and back-bar products as service stock, separately from retail products with cost, price and stock count. Each item has a reorder level and supplier. Give stylists a quick button at the colour bar to log a tube used, and generate a reorder list grouped by supplier.
Questions
Can I track colour by shade?
Yes. Each shade can be its own item with a count and a reorder level, grouped by brand and line.
Can stylists log stock as they use it?
Yes. A simple screen at the colour bar lets them log a tube or bottle used, which updates the count.
Can it link to my till for retail sales?
If your till exports sales as CSV, you can upload it to reduce retail stock. A live link depends on whether it has an API.
Can it handle more than one salon?
Yes. Ask for stock per location, with transfers between salons.
Do I need to code?
No. You describe the stock and change it in chat. Starting costs nothing, and Pro is $25 a month when you want more.
