Google AI Studio Alternatives for Building Apps in 2026

Google AI Studio alternatives for building apps, as of November 2026: Antigravity, Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0, Base44 and Mythex, free plans compared.

The best Google AI Studio alternative depends on what you want after the first prototype. If you want a hosted app with a database and sign-in without touching Google Cloud, try Lovable, Bolt, Base44 or Mythex. If you want a free coding environment from Google with more control, try Antigravity. If you want a real development environment with an AI agent, try Replit.

Google AI Studio's Build mode is one of the easiest ways to try an app idea with Gemini, and it is free to start. This guide covers where it fits, where people outgrow it, and which tool to try next. All facts were checked on each vendor's site as of November 2026.

What Google AI Studio does well

AI Studio's Build mode is Google's vibe coding environment. You describe an app, and Gemini writes it and shows a live preview. According to Google's docs:

  • Web apps use a React frontend by default and a Node.js server runtime, so you can call APIs securely.
  • It can also build native Android apps with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
  • The agent can set up Firebase Firestore for data and Firebase Authentication for sign-in.
  • You can sync with GitHub in both directions or download the code as a ZIP.
  • You can deploy to Google Cloud Run. Google notes Cloud Run pricing may apply.
  • Annotation Mode lets you highlight part of the app and describe a change.

It is free with a quota. When you hit it, you can add your own Gemini API key, and some features, such as image generation, need a paid key.

If your app's main job is to show off a Gemini feature, such as image understanding or a chat with a model, AI Studio is hard to beat: the model wiring is done for you.

Why people look for an alternative

  • Hosting means Google Cloud. Deploying puts the app on Cloud Run under your Google Cloud project. That is fine for developers and confusing for everyone else.
  • Quotas and API keys. Hitting the free quota mid-build and being asked for an API key is a common stopping point.
  • It is built around Gemini. If you want to build an ordinary business app (a booking system, a CRM, a client portal) rather than a showcase of a model, an app builder with hosting, a database and domains in one plan can be simpler.
  • No iPhone path. Android is covered; iOS isn't.

A note on Firebase Studio

Many older lists name Firebase Studio as the main AI Studio alternative. Google announced its sunset in March 2026: new sign-ups and workspaces stopped on June 22, 2026, and it shuts down on March 22, 2027. Google recommends moving to AI Studio or Antigravity. Don't start a new project there.

Google Antigravity

Antigravity is Google's "agentic development platform," a full desktop IDE for macOS, Windows and Linux where AI agents plan and write code with you. Google says it is available at no charge for developers.

Pick it if you like AI Studio but want a real editor, local files and full control, and you're comfortable deploying the app yourself. It's the natural step up for developers, and it's where Google points Firebase Studio users. Skip it if you've never used a code editor; it's a developer tool. Our Cursor alternatives guide covers similar tools.

Lovable

Lovable is a full-stack AI development platform for web apps. It adds a backend, database and sign-in for you, hosts the app, and syncs code to GitHub on every plan. The free plan gives 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month.

Pick it over AI Studio if you want a finished web product with sign-in and data, hosted without a Google Cloud account. Skip it if you need an Android or iPhone app. We compare the two directly in Lovable vs Google AI Studio.

Bolt

Bolt builds apps and websites by chat, with Bolt Cloud for hosting, databases and sign-in. The free plan is free forever with a monthly token allowance and a daily cap. For phones, Bolt's docs describe an Expo workflow you take to the stores with your own developer accounts.

Pick it if you want a generous free plan and a fast first draft. See Bolt alternatives.

Replit

Replit pairs an AI agent with a full cloud development environment, databases and one-click publishing. The free Starter plan includes a daily Agent allowance and one published app. It also documents publishing Expo apps to the App Store.

Pick it if you want AI Studio's speed plus the ability to run any language, install packages and see every file. See Replit vs Base44 and Mythex vs Replit.

v0

v0 by Vercel builds React apps and deploys them to Vercel in one click, with GitHub sync and a visual Design Mode on the free plan (7 messages a day).

Pick it if you want AI Studio's React output with a smoother path to production on Vercel. See Mythex vs v0.

Base44

Base44 has backend, storage, authentication and hosting built in, so there's no setup. The free plan has 25 message credits a month and up to 5 apps. Its docs describe generating App Store and Google Play files that run your published app in a web view, on Builder and higher.

Pick it if you want the fewest decisions. See Base44 alternatives.

Emergent

Emergent builds web apps and React Native mobile apps from chat, with hosting and databases included. Its free plan has 10 credits a month, and deploying needs a paid plan. We cover it in Emergent alternatives.

Mythex

Mythex is our product. You describe the app in chat, it builds a real full-stack app with a live preview, attaches a real database and file storage, and publishes to a public URL in one click, with no cloud account to set up. You change anything by chatting. A code editor and terminal are there if you want them (read-only on Free; editing, export and GitHub on Pro).

Free: no credit card, 5 credits a day (10 on day one, up to 30 a month), unlimited projects, live preview and publishing. Pro: $25 a month with 100 credits plus daily credits, code editing, export, GitHub, custom domain and top-ups. Hosting, databases and storage come from monthly Cloud credits (10 on Free, 20 on Pro).

Phones (Pro): Mythex turns a published app into an Android app you can upload to Google Play and an iPhone app sent to TestFlight with your App Store Connect key, no Mac needed. Each Publish updates the phone app.

Pick it over AI Studio if you want hosting, a database and an iPhone path in one plan, or want to build in Arabic or another of 64 interface languages. Stay with AI Studio if your app is mainly a Gemini demo; it wires the model for you better than any general builder.

Moving a project out of AI Studio

Because AI Studio can sync to GitHub or download a ZIP, you are never stuck. To move to an app builder, export the code, then start a new project and describe the app with the same prompt you used before, plus what you've learned. Rebuilding from a clear prompt is often faster than importing. Keep your Gemini API key as a secret in the new tool if the app still calls Gemini; our guide on keeping API keys safe explains how. For a broader view of model choice, see ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini for building apps.

Questions

Is Google AI Studio free?

Google describes AI Studio as free to experiment, prototype and build, with a usage quota. When the free quota runs out you can add your own Gemini API key, and paid models, image generation and Cloud Run hosting can cost money, as of November 2026.

What is the best free alternative to Google AI Studio?

For a full app with a database and a public link, Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Mythex all have free plans that publish as of November 2026. For a free desktop coding environment from Google itself, Antigravity is available at no charge for developers.

What happened to Firebase Studio?

Google announced in March 2026 that Firebase Studio is being shut down. New sign-ups and new workspaces stopped on June 22, 2026, and the environment ends on March 22, 2027. Google recommends moving projects to AI Studio or Antigravity.

Can Google AI Studio build mobile apps?

Yes. Google's docs say Build mode can make native Android apps with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, as well as React web apps. For iPhone apps, look at Replit or Bolt (Expo), Bubble, or Mythex Pro, which sends an iPhone build of your published app to TestFlight.

Do I need a Google Cloud account to publish from AI Studio?

Publishing from AI Studio deploys to Google Cloud Run, and Google notes that Cloud Run pricing may apply based on usage. Tools such as Lovable, Bolt and Mythex host the app for you on their own plans instead.
