Lovable vs Google AI Studio: Which Should You Build With?
Lovable vs Google AI Studio compared as of November 2026: free use, backend, hosting, Android apps and code export, with who each one suits best.

Pick Google AI Studio if your app is built around a Gemini feature, you're happy for it to live on Google Cloud, or you want a native Android app. Pick Lovable if you want a complete web product, with sign-in, a database, hosting and a custom domain in one place and no cloud console to learn. AI Studio is the fastest way to prototype with Gemini; Lovable is the more complete path from idea to running web app.
Both let you describe an app in plain language and watch it appear in a live preview. The real differences are in what you get after the preview. All facts were checked on Google's and Lovable's sites as of November 2026.

What Google AI Studio is good at
AI Studio's Build mode exists to show what Gemini can do. Describe an app that, for example, reads a photo of a receipt and pulls out the totals, and AI Studio picks the right model, connects it and writes the app around it. You never handle an API key unless you run past the free quota. Annotation Mode lets you highlight part of the app and say "make this button blue."
It goes beyond toys. The server runtime supports npm packages and secure API calls, the agent can add Firestore and Firebase sign-in, and you can sync with GitHub in both directions. Uniquely in this pair, it can build a native Android app.
The limits come at the edges. Publishing deploys to Cloud Run under a Google Cloud project, which means billing settings and a console that non-developers find hard. Quota limits can interrupt a long session. And there's no iPhone path.
What Lovable is good at
Lovable is built to take a web product from first prompt to something customers use. Its backend includes a database, sign-in, storage and hosting, so a client portal or a small SaaS gets accounts and data on day one. You can plan before code is written, edit elements directly on the preview, and publish to a URL, with custom domains on paid plans.
Lovable's docs list many sign-in options for your users and built-in payments on paid plans, which matters once you charge money. Git sync is included on every plan, so the code is never trapped.
The limits: it builds web apps only, the free plan is 5 credits a day, and the backend runs on Lovable unless you move it.
The same idea in both
Take a "plant doctor" app: users upload a photo of a sick plant and get a likely cause and care tips, and their history is saved.
In AI Studio, the image analysis is the easy part. Gemini is connected by default, and you'll have a working demo in a few prompts. Saving history means adding Firestore and Firebase sign-in through the agent, then deploying to Cloud Run to share it.
In Lovable, sign-in and the history table come first, with no setup, and the app is hosted when you publish. For the photo analysis you'd add an AI model through Lovable's AI features or connect an external API with a key stored as a secret.
If the model is the product, AI Studio gets you there faster. If the accounts, data and polish are the product, Lovable does.
Costs that catch people out
Neither tool is expensive to try, but each has a cost that surprises first-time users.
In AI Studio, the build itself is free within a quota, but three things can add charges: switching to a paid Gemini API key when the quota runs out, using paid models or image generation inside your app, and hosting on Cloud Run, which Google bills by usage under your Cloud project. If your app gets popular, every visitor's request to Gemini is also a model call you pay for once you leave the free tier.
In Lovable, building uses credits from your plan, while hosting, the database and AI features draw on separate Cloud and AI grants. A busy app spends those grants faster than the plan price suggests, so watch the usage page for the first few weeks after launch.
The fair comparison isn't the sticker price; it's what one month of a real app with real users costs in each. Build a small version, invite ten people, and look at the numbers.
Sharing your app with users
With AI Studio you can share an app link for others to try, and Google notes that shared apps count toward your usage limits. For a public launch, you deploy to Cloud Run and add your own domain through Google Cloud. With Lovable, publishing gives you a URL straight away and hosting is included; custom domains come with paid plans. For a product you'll market, Lovable's route is shorter.
Which one for which job
| If you want… | Pick |
|---|---|
| A quick demo of a Gemini capability | Google AI Studio |
| A native Android app | Google AI Studio |
| A web product with accounts and a custom domain | Lovable |
| No cloud console or billing setup | Lovable |
| To edit design directly on the preview | Lovable |
| Code that you take into your own editor later | Either; both sync to GitHub |
| To stay inside Google's ecosystem (Firebase, Cloud Run) | Google AI Studio |
Where Mythex fits
Mythex is our product, so weigh this accordingly. It is closest to Lovable in shape: you describe the app in chat, Mythex builds a real full-stack app with a live preview, attaches a real database and file storage, and publishes it to a public URL in one click, with no cloud account to create. It adds a code editor and terminal in the same workspace (read-only on Free; edit, export and GitHub on Pro).
Two places it differs from both tools above. First, phones: on Pro, Mythex turns a published app into an Android app you can upload to Google Play and an iPhone app sent to TestFlight with your own App Store Connect key, no Mac needed. The phone app opens your published app, so it's not native Kotlin like AI Studio's Android output. Second, language: the interface comes in 64 languages, you can prompt in any language, and Arabic and other right-to-left layouts work.
Free has no card, 5 credits a day (10 on day one, up to 30 a month), unlimited projects and publishing. Pro is $25 a month. Hosting, databases and storage come from monthly Cloud credits, 10 on Free and 20 on Pro. If on-preview visual editing is what you want most, Lovable is still the better choice. See Mythex vs Lovable.
Getting the best of both
Many people prototype the AI feature in AI Studio, because it's free and the model is wired in, then build the product in an app builder. Keep the prompt that worked in AI Studio, note which model and settings it used, and describe the full app, including sign-in and data, in your builder of choice. If the app still calls Gemini, store your API key as a project secret rather than in the code (how to keep API keys safe).

Questions
Is Google AI Studio better than Lovable?
For apps whose main feature is a Gemini model, such as image analysis or a model-powered chat, AI Studio is quicker because the model wiring is done for you. For a general web product with sign-in, data and hosting, Lovable is the more complete package. They suit different jobs.
Is Google AI Studio free compared with Lovable?
Google describes AI Studio as free to use with a quota; after the quota you can add your own API key, and paid models and Cloud Run hosting may cost money. Lovable's free plan gives 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, with hosting included. Both are free to start as of November 2026.
Can Lovable or Google AI Studio build an Android app?
Google's docs say AI Studio's Build mode can make native Android apps with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. Lovable builds web apps that can be added to a phone's home screen but doesn't produce store apps.
Can I move an AI Studio project to Lovable?
AI Studio can sync to GitHub or download a ZIP, so you keep the code. Lovable is built around its own projects, so the usual route is to describe the app again in Lovable, using what you learned in the prototype, rather than importing the AI Studio code.
Which one handles user sign-in better?
Lovable includes a backend with sign-in and lists many methods, including email, Google and SSO. AI Studio's agent can set up Firebase Authentication for you, which works well but lives in a Firebase project you manage.
