Why car hire booking is not slot booking

A haircut takes an hour; a hire takes four days and ties up one of the eight compacts you own. Availability has to count cars in a class across every day of the range and include the time it takes to check, clean and refuel the car after it comes back. Ask for that explicitly. Rules to decide before you build

Write down your minimum hire length, the turnaround buffer, the cut-off for same-day bookings, the one-way fee per route, and how the deposit works. Decide whether a late return charges a full extra day or by the hour, and how many free miles per day are included. These rules are short in a prompt but cause most of the arguments when they are vague. Put them in your first message and Mythex builds them into the price calculation and the confirmation.

Mistakes to avoid

Zero buffer between hires is the classic one: the 10am return is booked out at 10:15 and you end up upgrading someone for free. Selling extras you cannot supply is the second, because child seats are limited and nobody counts them. Third, letting brokers and direct bookings live in different places. Ask for a quick 'add broker booking' form so every hire, whatever the source, lands in the same calendar and blocks the same car.
