Factory Shift Scheduling App Built Around Operator Skills
A factory shift scheduling app has to know more than who is working: it has to know who can run each machine. Describe your lines, shifts and operator skills to Mythex and it builds a rota that warns about uncovered machines, suggests qualified cover and totals overtime, all on a real database your supervisors can open on a phone.
Who it's for
Small manufacturers running day, evening or night shifts from a spreadsheet, where the supervisor knows from memory who can set up the press, and a single sick call can stop a line.
What you can build
- Day, evening and night shifts per line
- Operator qualifications per machine with expiry dates
- Warnings when a running machine has no qualified operator
- Absence cover suggested from qualified staff first
- Overtime totals against planned production peaks
- A skills matrix showing single points of failure
Schedule by qualification
Record which operators are trained on each machine and when the training or certificate expires. When you build a shift, the rota checks every machine planned to run and warns if nobody on that shift is qualified. Expired qualifications drop out automatically, which matters for forklifts, presses and anything with a legal training requirement where you operate.
- Qualification per operator per machine
- Expiry dates that remove eligibility
- Warning for uncovered machines
Find your single points of failure
A skills matrix, operators down one side and machines across the top, shows quickly where one person is the only qualified operator on a line. That person's holiday is your biggest production risk. Use the matrix to plan cross-training and track it to completion, so the next time they are off the line keeps running.
Absences and overtime
When someone calls in sick, the app lists qualified operators who are not already on shift, sorted by hours worked this week, so cover goes to those with capacity rather than the same willing few. Overtime is totalled per person and per week and can be compared with the production plan to see whether peaks justify a temporary hire.
- Qualified cover listed by hours worked
- Overtime per person per week
- Peaks compared with the plan
What to set up first
Build the skills matrix before the rota: list every operator and every machine and tick who is qualified. It is often the first time a factory has seen it written down. Then enter next month's shift pattern and let the warnings show you gaps. Leave requests and overtime approvals can follow.
A prompt to start from
Make a shift scheduling app for my factory. Lines run day, evening and night shifts. Each operator has qualifications per machine with expiry dates. When I plan a shift, warn if any running machine has no qualified operator. When someone is absent, list qualified operators not on shift, sorted by hours this week. Show a skills matrix highlighting machines with only one qualified operator, and total overtime per week.
Questions
Can it stop untrained operators being scheduled on a machine?
It can warn or block, as you prefer. Each machine checks the qualifications of the operators on that shift, including expiry dates.
Can operators see their shifts on their phones?
Yes, the published app works in a phone browser. On Pro, Mythex can also make Android and iPhone apps that open your published app.
Can it handle rotating shift patterns?
Yes. Describe the pattern, such as two days, two evenings, two nights, four off, and the rota repeats it. You can adjust individual days.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You describe your shifts and rules in plain language and Mythex builds the app.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Free needs no card and gives daily credits to build and publish. Pro is $25/month and adds a custom domain, code editing and export.
