Manufacturing Inventory App with Bills of Materials and Lot Tracking

A manufacturing inventory app tracks three kinds of stock, raw materials, work in progress and finished goods, and links them through bills of materials so a production order uses the right components. Describe your products and suppliers to Mythex and it builds the app with lot tracking, reorder points and shortage warnings on a real database.

Who it's for

Small manufacturers who discover a component shortage when the line stops, count stock in a spreadsheet updated once a month, and cannot say which material lot went into a customer's batch.

What you can build

  • Raw materials, WIP and finished goods kept separately
  • Bills of materials per product and version
  • Production orders that consume components on completion
  • Lot or batch numbers from goods-in to dispatch
  • Reorder points from each supplier's real lead time
  • Shortage warnings for scheduled production

Bills of materials do the counting

Define each product's components and quantities once, with a version when the design changes. When a production order completes, the app deducts components and adds finished goods. Before an order is scheduled, it checks whether there is enough of every component and lists the shortfall, so purchasing hears about it days before the line would stop.

  • BOM per product version
  • Automatic deduction on completion
  • Shortage check before scheduling

Reorder points that reflect lead times

A round number like 'reorder at 100' ignores how long each supplier takes. Set reorder points from average daily use multiplied by the supplier's lead time plus a safety margin. A component that takes six weeks to arrive needs a much higher trigger than one you can buy tomorrow. The app recalculates as usage changes.

Lots and traceability

Record the supplier lot or batch number at goods-in and attach the material certificate. When components are used, record which lots went into which production order, and which finished batch went to which customer. If a supplier recalls a lot, you can find every affected shipment in minutes rather than days.

  • Lot number and certificate at goods-in
  • Lots linked to production orders
  • Finished batches linked to dispatches

What to set up first

Do a full count of components for your ten best-selling products and enter their BOMs. Run production orders for those products through the app for a month and compare the app's stock figures with a physical recount. Once they match, add the rest of the range and lot tracking.

A prompt to start from

Build an inventory app for my factory. Track raw materials, work in progress and finished goods. Each product has a bill of materials with a version. Completing a production order deducts components and adds finished goods. Before scheduling, check components and list shortages. Record supplier lot numbers and certificates at goods-in, link lots to production orders and finished batches to dispatches, and set reorder points from daily use and supplier lead time.

Questions

Can it handle bills of materials?

Yes. Define components and quantities per product, with versions for design changes. Production orders use the BOM to deduct stock.

Can I trace which material lot went to a customer?

Yes, if lots are recorded at goods-in and against each production order. The app then links finished batches to dispatches.

Can staff use barcode scanners?

Scanners that type into a browser field usually work with a web app. Try your own device on a small prototype first.

Do I need programming skills?

No. You describe your stock and products in plain language and Mythex builds it. Changes are made by chatting.

How much does it cost?

The Free plan has no card requirement and daily credits to build and publish. Pro is $25/month and adds a custom domain, code editing and export.
