Plan picking backwards from the cut-off
If orders close at 5pm and the first truck leaves at 6am, the picking window is set by those two times, not by a nine-to-five day. Drivers, routes and licences
Record each driver's licence category and expiry, and each vehicle's weight class. The rota should only offer a driver a route and vehicle they are allowed to drive, and warn you a month before a licence or driver qualification expires. Keep fixed routes with a regular driver where you can: customers notice when the person who knows the back door changes every week.
Reps by territory
Sales reps work a different pattern: visits planned by territory and day, often matched to the delivery route so a rep sees a customer the day before their drop. Put rep visit days in the same app so the office knows who is out where, and new accounts can be visited before their first delivery.
Peak weeks and holiday cover
The weeks before public holidays bring heavy orders just when staff want time off. Set minimum cover per role, block holiday requests that would drop below it, and add extra shifts for peak weeks early so agency or part-time staff can be booked.
