Construction Dashboard Builder: Budget, Programme and Cash per Project

Most building firms find out a job lost money after it is finished. A construction dashboard built with Mythex shows each live project's cost against budget, programme against plan, and the cash still owed, from your own data and updated as often as you load it.

Who it's for

Directors and commercial managers of construction companies running several sites at once, whose numbers live in a valuation spreadsheet, an accounts package and the site managers' heads. Useful once you have three or more live jobs and no single screen that shows which one is in trouble.

What you can build

  • A row per live project: phase, budget, cost to date, forecast final cost and margin
  • Planned against actual dates for each phase, with slipped phases highlighted
  • Quote pipeline value and win rate by project type
  • Stage payments invoiced, paid and overdue
  • Retention held per project with its release date
  • A CSV import for weekly costs from your accounts or purchase ledger

The numbers worth watching every week

Cost against budget per project is the one that saves margins. An overrun on groundworks or frame can be recovered through value engineering or a conversation with the client; the same overrun found at second fix is too late. After that, watch programme slip, because a late phase pushes the next trade and the cost follows. Then cash: stage payments not yet invoiced, invoices not yet paid, and retention waiting for release.

  • Cost to date against budget, per job
  • Days behind programme, per phase
  • Unbilled stages and overdue invoices

Getting your data in

Start with sample data so you can see the layout, then load your real figures. The simplest route is a weekly CSV from your accounts package or valuation sheet: project, cost category, amount, date. Ask Mythex for an import screen that maps your columns. If your projects already live in another Mythex app, such as a client portal, the dashboard can read from that instead of a copy.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not build forty charts. A director looks at a dashboard for two minutes on a Monday, so the first screen should be a table of live jobs with red and green against budget and programme. Do not mix committed costs with paid costs without labelling them. And keep the dashboard behind a login, since margins and retention figures are not something you want on a public URL.

A prompt to start from

Build a dashboard for a construction company. Show a table of live projects with client, site, phase, budget, cost to date, forecast final cost and margin, highlighting any job more than 5% over budget or behind programme. Add cards for quote pipeline value, win rate, unpaid stage payments and retention held. Include a weekly CSV import of costs, a date filter, and login so only directors can see it. Seed it with realistic sample data.

Questions

Can it use our real cost data?

Yes. Start on sample data, then ask for a CSV import that matches the columns your accounts or valuation sheet exports. You load the file each week and the dashboard updates.

Can it flag jobs going over budget?

Say the rule, such as more than 5% over budget or more than a week behind, and the dashboard highlights those projects. You can ask for an email alert too.

Can I keep it private?

Ask for login and the published dashboard requires an account. You can give directors full access and site managers a view of only their own projects.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Describe the figures you want in plain language and Mythex builds the dashboard with a live preview. Change charts or columns by chatting.

How much does it cost?

The Free plan needs no card and has daily credits, enough to build and publish a first version. Pro is $25 a month and adds code editing, export, a custom domain and more credits.
